A very helpful book

This book presents to the lector in a comprehensive way the necesary mathematical methods needed by any physicist, engineer or student. It includes themes such as elementary vector calculus, matrix algebra and transformations, a very extensive study of boundary value problems, elementary applicationsof the Laplace Tansform, Integral Transforms, Variation and Perturbation Methods, Elements of Probability Theory, among others. Each point is well exposed, with many explamples and problems (although it doesn't provide the answers). A defect may be the fact that some points (although few) are not fully developed, and in some cases one will probably have to read a more basic-level book on those points (As a freshman, it happened to me that to understand chapters 7 and 8, about functions of a comples variable and calculus of residues, I had to read an introductory book on complex variable). It's develop of many math topics and it's application to Physics and Engineering and the independance of many chapters from the others, makes this book a very helpful one.

About the Author
Aron Ralston, a native of the Midwest, retired from a career as a mechanical engineer at age twenty-six before moving to Aspen, Colorado. Since his accident, he has completed his unprecedented project to climb the fifty-nine Colorado peaks of more than 14,000 feet, alone, in winter. His first book, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place", was a "New York Times" bestseller and was adapted into the major motion picture "127 Hours" by Danny Boyle. Today, as a father of an infant daughter and four-year-old son, Aron lives in Boulder, Colorado. He continues to travel the world for both adventure and to share his story. Lisa Friedrichsen is a Professor at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, where she teaches some of the school's leading database and web development classes. As an author, she has written several prominent Access, Office, and Web-related textbooks. Ms. Friedrichsen combines her ability to teach with extensive industry experience. Her undergraduate degree is in Engineering from Iowa State University, and she holds an MBA from Drake University. Ms. Friedrichsen worked for a decade at IBM Corporation before becoming a well-respected Web consultant, technology author, and college professor.

If you "learn by doing", then this is a great book for beginners learning Microsoft Access 2010

I have been involved in computing for over thirty-five years. To give you some idea of what this means, I started in the days prior to PCs when punch cards were king and "big iron" mainframes ruled the roost. A good chunk of my time has involved direct contact with and support of clients. For example, back in the early 80's I was teaching classes on how to set up relational database applications. And so, I've always been on the lookout for tools that would make it easier for clients to learn how to do things for themselves. Everyone has a different learning style and so not one style is perfect for everyone. However, if you are the kind of person who can read through the text and will spend the time to do the exercises, then this book is a great introduction to Microsoft Access 2010. Of course, it's a big help if you have someone who can answer a quick question or two in case you get stuck. No book is perfect but it rates five stars in my opinion for its readable style and detailed instructions. I learn far more through working with a new tool than by just watching someone talk about it in a class. If this is your learning style, then I can strongly recommend this book for your consideration.

The book is very good. It walks you through each step and is very easy to follow for new comers to Access. I have the same book for Word and Excel and their both just as good as this one.

Great book. Shows everything in detail and has great examples to follow along. I wish it talked about the VB parts a little better, but it is a great intro book.
