Las vidas de más de 12.000 familias fueron cercenadas por la inquina y el odio de las tres personas más influyentes del país, Fernando VI, el Gobernador de Castilla y el Marqués de la Ensenada; y por una sociedad que les volvió la espalda, sumado al silencio de la iglesia y a la denuncia de sus propios vecinos.
En Triana, un arrabal con vida y alma gitana, vive asentada la familia Claverías. Tomás, su esposa Quina, su cuñada Jesula y sus dos hijos. Tomás es herrero, un gitano humilde y honrado que intenta dar seguridad a su familia cumpliendo las pragmáticas para integrarse en una sociedad que los discrimina y los obliga a vivir en contra de sus costumbres.
