zombies with a supernatural twist?

I am enjoying this series. Instead of the catastrophic government virus outbreak take on zombies the author is hinting at the presence of the supernatural and about others having Anya's special gift, or something akin to it. After all, as her brother points out, if she can do something unexplainable since the zombies started, why wouldn't there be others? I am looking forward to seeing how this unfolds.
I was a little surprised by the curve that the story line took in this book. It was less zombie and more apocalyptic crazy people, but it was intriguing. The story up to this point lent us to believe that this family has survived by keeping to themselves as much as possible. In fact, helping others was how Kyle was bitten. So it did seem a little surprising that they would up and go on a rescue mission with strangers. Especially strange that her big brother Viktor would leave her "protected" by their defiant and unexperienced little brother Alexi. HOWEVER, it was a riveting and unexpected adventure. Their new group of friends from this mission as well as the discovery of the people living near them at the dam indicate that their seclusion may be coming to an end. Dangerous for Anya. If anyone finds out what she can do she can kiss freedom goodbye.
There are a lot of questions hanging in the air as we await the next book. Will she find her lost zombie love Kyle? If so, can she end him? What about this cure the soldiers hinted at? If there is a cure is there really something supernatural at work? What will happen at the compound when she turns up NOT dead? Suzanna is in some deep deep trouble over that. I can't help but want to see what her punishment will be. There have to be some laws in place even during a zombie apocalypse. What does this mystery man following her and her brother have in store for them? Will he witness her using her ability? What's going on with these people at the dam? Are they friendlies or militia like the soldiers from Colorado Springs?
This book gave far more questions than answers. So many loose ends. Ready to see how they get tied up. Enjoying this series. Definitely recommend it.
